I. Introduction
It was Friday, August 5, 2011. I woke up 4:45 in the morning. I arrived to school at 6:01 am. I thought I was late. The bus was supposed to arrive to school at 6 am but instead they arrived about 7 am. We traveled for like 1-2 hours. Me and Tonnievyle were listening to some music on the road. We arrived at La Carlota about 8:30 am. We stopped at Jollibee to have breakfast and then continued our trip.
II. Places
A. Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology also known as PHIVOLCS is one of the destination we went in La Carlota. The road to the location was very, very, very, very, very muddy. PHIVOLCS records reports about earthquakes happening in the Philippines but the one that we went only records some parts of Negros. They use a device or instrument called the seismometer, which measures the vibrations caused by the earthquake. Without PHIVOLCS, we wouldn't know about the happenings occurring on earth.
B. University of the Philippines - Los Banos - La Granja Research Center
Next stop is the UP Los Banos La Granja Research Center. At first, I thought this was a school but it was a research center. We had some session or whatever you call it about the things they do here. UPLBCA or University of the Philippines Los Banos College of Agriculture is one of the systems of University of the Philippines, as what the speaker said over and over again. They research about sugarcane, corns, and etc. They also sell some mushrooms for only 15 pesos.
C. Sugar Regulatory Administration
The Sugar Regulatory Administration is one of the branches of UPLBCA. We also had some session (or whatever you call it...) inside. We had some tour around the compound. They also do some tissue culture on some sugarcane plants. SRA has a big land area. The have a basketball court and a swimming pool. We had our lunch here and after that, some of us went swimming in their pool.
D. Provincial Veterinary - La Carlota Farm
After our lunch and swimming at SRA, we went to Provincial Veterinary - La Carlota Farm. When we entered the farm, there was a very foul smell. The smell came from cow poop. There were many cows that are taken care of by the farm. We also got the chance to feed them.
E. Le Grand Dairy Plant
And our final destination was the Le Grand Dairy Plant. One of the workers explained to us how milk is being produced here. Some or most of us bought their products after the discussion. The taste of their milk is very, very, very delicious. This is not the first time I have tasted their milk. My tita used to buy me these when I was a kid.
III. Summary
I really enjoyed our field trip in La Carlota especially, our swimming in SRA. I get to spend more time with my friends. I learned a lot of things from PHIVOLCS down to Le Grand Dairy Farm. Without these industries, we don't have a field trip. I thank God because these industries are here and I got the opportunity to visit these places. These industries represents our country.
